The Power of ‘I Get To’: A Mindset Shift for Growth

How many times have you said, “I have to work out,” “I have to go to work,” or “I have to wake up early”?
That simple phrase, “ have to” carries weight. It signals obligation, burden, maybe even resistance. But what happens when we reframe it?
What if, instead, we said “I get to”?
I get to move my body today, my strength is a gift.
I get to show up for my career, it fuels my purpose.
I get to wake up early, another day brings new opportunities.
Gratitude Shifts Everything
In fitness, wellness, and growth, mindset is the ultimate gamechanger.
Movement isn’t a chore, it’s an opportunity. Work isn’t stress, it’s a stepping stone. Life isn’t happening to us, it’s happening for us.
When I work with my clients as their trainer, motivator, and accountability partner, the first shift we focus on is gratitude.
Seeing every action as an opportunity removes the pressure of obligation and builds momentum toward real change.
Bringing This Into Your Daily Life
The next time resistance creeps in—before a workout, a tough meeting, or a challenge outside your comfort zone—pause.
Take a deep breath and say:
“I get to do this.”
Not every moment will be easy. Growth isn’t always comfortable. The cool thing though? We get to move, learn, evolve, and impact those around us.
That’s something worth embracing every single day.
A reminder–take a breath. We got this. You got this!
